Beaches

For over a dozen years, Conde Naste Traveler’s magazine reader’s poll have named Maui as the best island in the world.

Maui has nearly 80 beaches. And many “locals” call Keawakapu Beach, where the Mana Kai Maui resort is located is the best on the Island. Its bottom slopes gradually into the ocean. Its sand is very soft.

There are wonderful beaches all along the west Maui Coast.

South Maui offers the last undeveloped beach called Big Beach. Here is a movie taken at that beach.  All along Kihei and Wailea are nice,  soft sand  beaches whereby shoes are not needed.  Between  Central  and North Kihei the beach is quite  narrow  and there is an algae  problem.

North Maui is where the surfers, kite surfers and wind surfers go. A coral reef protects the Hookipo Beach so kids can play while you lay on the sand. Its typically windy in the afternoon.

Some of the beaches in East Maui, like near Hana. have coarse sand or ground volcano rock.  So take beach slippers.
